With more than 100 years of history, the Guadalajara Sports Club, also known as Chivas, is one of the most popular football teams in Mexico and with the biggest fan base in the country.
In Mexico, football (soccer in the US) is the sport that unites a whole country and the one that Mexicans are truly passionate about. In my case, I’m a Chivas fan, one of Mexico’s most popular and most loved teams (except if you ask someone from Mexico City, they have their own team). This time, I took as my star guest, my Holga. The idea was to try and capture the euphoria football creates for fans in 35mm film.
Once you get to the stadium, the fun begins even before you go inside. It’s not just about watching the match, but being able to see the love people have for their teams and its players. If you take a good look around, you’ll even find fans that might be considered a bit weird…
Once inside and specially on those occasions when the stadium is completely full, when people start to chant, cheer and jump, you can even feel the ground tremble a bit. It’s a breathtaking sight that will give you goosebumps. So many people come together in one place, showing their passions for a team, and giving their best to support it during the whole match is amazing!
That’s why every time I have a chance to go, I put on my Chivas jersey and prepare my voice to chant the Guadalajara anthem and root for my team.
