Stunning Lightning Photos from the Lomographic World

The elusive lightning is perhaps one of the most challenging yet fascinating subjects to be photographed by man. Let us take a look at some stunning photos taken by Lomographers who were quick and lucky enough to capture the speedy lightning bolts on film!

On June 10, 1752, Benjamin Franklin, a known polymath and a Founding Father of the United States of America, flew a kite during a thunderstorm. When a lightning bolt hit the kite, a leyden jar collected the charge, allowing Franklin to demonstrate his assumption that lightning was an electrical current. Stories also tell of Franklin testing whether lightning would pass through metal by attaching a metal key on the kite. His curiosity on the nature of lightning resulted in many terms and concepts we now identify electricity with. Had photography and cameras been available around his time, Franklin could have taken really interesting lightning photos, don’t you think?

Roughly two centuries and five decades after Franklin’s historical kite flying project, man still holds much fascination for lightning and occasionally points a camera to capture a bolt or two. The Lomographic world is never short of beautiful lightning photographs, so why don’t we take a look at them now?
