Lomography

I've never fit quite right in with others. Who knew I'd find my place on the other side of the world, in a magazine laying at a coffee-table. I haven't been in this community that long, but it didn't take long for me to feel right at home. And when it really came down to it, they proved themselves true to be amazing. Which, if possible, just made me feel even more at home.

Yeah. I found Lomography in a magazine in Brisbane, at a couchsurfers coffee-table I was staying with. I only picked the mag up because the cover looked interesting, and inside was a review of 8 lomographic cameras. The LC-A+ was in there and it called my name. I took a mental note of the strange but funny name, Lomography, and checked it up when I came back to Oslo, Norway. Only some 15,000km away. Didn’t take long for me to order it. And now here I am. No looking back to the digital which is where I started.

2 weeks ago to writing date, a lot of feelings were building up inside me and making me feel bad. And so I did what I’ve learned to do when I have too much inside: I wrote it out. More for myself than anyone else, but I knew this was the place I wanted to write it, rather than Facebook. And then I started getting back some amazing response that filled me with such gratitude, such joy and such calm.
I felt better as soon as it was posted, but the response was just… I love you all for the amazing comments and for being who you are.

And then what happened? I got the weeks most popular user blog, something I didn’t even think would happen, and especially not from just easing my mind and heart from heavy thoughts and feelings.

This community is filled with people that I wish I had around me in real life, every day, and not just through a screen. It’s a community with wonderful ideas, visions, opinions and variation.

In some small ways, being gay is similar to being a Lomographer.
You love a minority, you belong to a minority, and not everyone will understand you. And others will think you’re more cool for it. :) Lomographers are openminded, curious, excited by differences and eager to see more, learn more, know more, explore more. I can only hope that this community spreads – that our love spreads over the world and especially to those who may need it, and that more people start to see the world as we see it: exciting, beautiful, always surprising.
