I started getting into Lomography just last year. With the start of 2011, it is in fact, a new year in Lomography for me. I made a ton of mistakes, therefore I had a lot to learn from my first year, and from there I have made up these resolutions for taking better photos this new year!
A holiday tradition tidbit first: In our family, during new year, we are obliged to wear red, to signify happiness and luck; and polka dots, to signify coins, to have more money in the new year!
My Lomographic Resolutions:
#1: Inspect camera before buying
The first camera I bought was the Disderi Robot 3 from an online seller. I got the item via meet-up, but still I failed to inspect the innards of the camera! Maybe I was just so excited. When I got the photos I took with the camera, they had a black stripe thing. I actually got to fix it now, with a bit of superglue.
#2: Get rid of the fat finger syndrome
This is embarrassing.
#3: Get rid of the fat hanky syndrome
This is even more embarrassing. _ My hanky does sometimes get in the shot.
#4: Find that right amount of carelessness
If that’s even possible. While I may have turned out some gems with my carelessness (accidentally clicking mx switch, opening the back with film still loaded, etc.) , I also burned a lot of frames for nothing. I wouldn’t recommend being too careful, but it wouldn’t also help being entirely careless.
#5: Do not be fooled by the viewfinder
I need to remind myself that I should rely less on the viewfinder. The viewfinders of my cameras are not really exact. I should have been able to master how my lens are gonna capture the image, or how off the viewfinder is. When all else fails, I resolve to just shoot from the hip!
#6: Shoot wherever, whatever!
I have been blessed with being able to travel to China last year, but by the looks of it, it seems I won’t be going anywhere soon. So, I resolve to just shoot whatever is within my reach, and know that the camera’s lens will allow me to see differently the things I see everyday.
#7: Get my friends involved
Share the awesomeness that is lomography! I have a few friends involved in analogue photography, and it’s sad to say that 1 of them went over to the dark side that is digital photography (noooo! – just kidding). That’s why last Christmas, I prepared rolls of film as gifts. Hehe
#8: Earn more piggies!
I currently have 45 out of 145 piggies I need for a Spinner 360! Just 100 more!!! I hope this article would help me in earning them ;-)
Here’s to better photos in 2011! Cheers!
