Don't Just Eat Pasta - Make it!

Shooting with film isn't the only thing that is analogue in my life. I own a small collection of vinyl records, I still write with a pen and paper, and now I make my own pasta. Keep reading to learn more.

This year for my birthday my wife bought me a pasta machine. This is a machine that passes a piece of dough through two rollers to compress and make it thinner. You do this by turning a hand crank until the dough has passed through the rollers, then you repeat the process many many times.

So to start, I checked out multiple recipes, we own many cookbooks so finding recipes were quite easy. I settled on the recipe of the great Mario Batali (one of my favorite chefs).

I have linked to this recipe at the bottom of this article for those interested.

After reading the recipe I cleaned off our kitchen counters and started to make the pasta dough, making a well of flour (organic of course) and adding six eggs (organic too) to the center of the well. Then I beat the eggs with a fork to make sure they were well mixed.

Now it was time for me to get my hands messy. I slowly incorporated the eggs into the flour by spinning the eggs into the flour, so that both ingredients began to combine. As they combine a dough began to form allowing me to start to knead the dough.

After the dough had rested for 30 minutes we could start using the pasta machine to flatten it out.

Once the pasta was flattened and thin, we could cut it into the thin strips to make pasta. We did this with the cutters that come with the pasta machine as well as hand cutting it with a knife.

And with that we had plenty of fresh pasta, ready to feed us for the next month of so, and let me tell you, it sure is good.

If you would like the recipe to try this for yourself

Thanks for all the comments and likes everybody. I love the idea of a lomo cookbook, I do remember the one from a few years ago, but I never actually saw it, just saw that it was available in the shop. Making a competition for the best recipes would be a fantastic idea, that way people from all over the world could try out different foods at home. Great ideas, let's keep sharing...
