Take Your Best Shot

Have you ever had an idea for an amazing photo and the only thing missing was a model? Don’t panic, you can always use yourself. Here a re a few tips using most of Lomography's cameras!

A few years ago, whenever I saw a camera I’d always shy away and hide. I didn’t like having my photo taken, I even found it annoying. Well, all that’s changed. Because of my love of photography, recently I’ve started to get a taste for being photographed. So much so, that if no-one’s takes my photo, I do it myself. A little self-centred maybe? Yes, probably. But I like it because it gives me an excuse to dress up and let my imagination run wild. I know how to have a good time on my own. On various occasions I’ve recruited my sisters or friends to help me with an idea, but other times I just can’t wait for a model to turn up, I have to take the photo now, now, now!

The Lomography Fisheye 2 is probably the best camera for having fun with self-portraits, alone or with friends. It’s simple, all you do is lift the camera above your head and look up (or hold it down and look down), holding it closer to or further from your face depending on how deformed you want the effect to be.

The Diana is my favourite camera for self-portraits. I usually use the cable release, although its a bit short and sometimes I need someone to click the shutter for me.

Self-portraits made with the Diana’s Instant Back and the splitzer are always fun.

Last (but by no means least) a self portrait taken with my new Lomo LC-A+

I’ve just had a thought, I’ve never taken a self-portrait with my Horizon Kompakt
