My Lomo Story by reneg88

It is said that one should not judge a book by it's cover, but in this case, the camera that was staring at me was too beautiful to assume the contrary. It was because of Rob Ryan's Fisheye design, that I am eternally addicted to Lomography.

I stumbled upon this marvelous creation on my week vacation in Hollywood, when I went to visit my girlfriend. Just like workerbee and many other folks who are dragged by their sisters, girlfriends or other female companions, I made it to the Urban Outfitters store. In the midst of trendy clothes, and fashion accessories, was a rather peculiar section of the store which contained a big number of random apartment and electronic items. And there it was, a very colorful box, reaching out and calling my name; The Lomography Robert Ryan Special Edition Fisheye Camera. I went over and grabbed it, and as soon as I felt it in my hands I knew I was taking it home with me. I picked up 2 packs of Lomography Color Negative 35mm film, and headed over to the counter to buy my very first analog camera.

I enjoyed the last day of my trip snapping away everything I could get my sight on, from my beautiful girlfriend to the clouds on the plane on my way back home. As soon as I got back I went to get my first two rolls developed, and I was astounded by the beauty that my cute looking camera, which I later named ’Mrs. Peach, had captured. Life as I knew it, had changed.

I joined the LSI online, seduced by the booklet the Fisheye box included. Once there I began snooping my way around and seeing all the wonderful images the other users had in their homes and the many names of different types of cameras they had been taken with. So I did my homework and learned about every one of them.

Little over two weeks passed and I had ordered a Holga 135 BC. Captivated by the effects of multiple exposure, long exposure, and dark corners that the Fisheye wasn’t giving me, I wanted to expand my horizon past the circle in which I was capturing my life. While snapping away with my brand new Holga 135 BC, named ‘Cecilia’, I started getting more and more into LSI, submitting for contests, locations, and tipsters.

Upon a variety of new cameras that kept tempting me every time I went into the Lomography Online Shop, I had told myself, my next buy would be the Diana F+ Deluxe Kit. Surprisingly, within a month, I got a scholarship at my university for $200, and since it was money I hadn’t been counting on, I immediately spent it on the Diana F+ Chrome Edition Deluxe Kit. A week later I got the glorious package in the mail and named her ‘Belle’.

Since my girlfriend Irina had gotten addicted to Lomography as well, she had been frequenting the Lomography Gallery Store in Los Angeles, and had decided to surprise me by sending me a surprise by mail, and when I got the package a few days later it was a gorgeous blue rubberized Supersampler! Straight out of the box I called her ‘Robin’.

Ever since, I had been spending my days setting responsibilities aside and getting more involved in Lomography. I know there are more important things I should be doing, but I cannot resist whenever one of my cameras calls my name and asks me to take her out for some snapping. I got my first Lomolocation published on April 15th, and to my surprise, won Photo of the Day on April 22nd, 2010.

A few weeks later, on May 5th, 2010, one very special morning, I got online like any other day and I was Lomo Home of the Day! Out of excitement and an overwhelming rush of piggies and discounts, I ordered a Lomo LC-A+, which I had been dreaming about ever since the Fisheye from the beginning. ‘Helen’ made her way to my hands, and since then, it’s only been days full of Lomography!
