As of this writing, Spain is but a few hours away from being written and immoratalized in the history books, or going home in agonizing defeat. kvboyle wishes and hopes for the former to happen, and here's her latest shots from Spain's latest conquest!
You might think that Spain has enjoyed enough sporting success recently: their basketball team are World and European Champions, Rafa Nadal won the French Open and is the recently crowned king of Wimbledon, Jorge Lorenzo looks unbeatable in Moto GP, F1 ace Fernando Alonso is in the running for this year’s title, Alberto Contador is favourite to defend his Tour de France win….where will it all end? When will they give someone else a chance?
Not yet, please, not yet. All of Spain is hoping for one more glorious night, in Johannesburg on Sunday when La Roja take on the Oranje. Although the roll call of champions is long, Spain have never won the World Cup. They’d never even got past the quarter-finals until now, so this really, really matters.
Even the fact of being in the finals is cause for enormous celebration. If Seville is anything to go by fountains across Spain were full of celebrating fans on Wednesday night. Cars honked their horns like NY taxis, teenagers paraded through the streets dressed entirely in red and yellow, small boys carried flags bigger than themselves. It was crazy. And that was just the semis. Can you image what it’ll be like on Sunday……
