Kodachrome is a famous film, we all know how special it is. It’s so special that there’s only one place in the world that still processes it (until the end of 2010)!
It’s a rich and sometimes awkward film stock that needs spot on exposure to yield stunning results. The development process is tricky as this is no E-6 bad boy. The film comes with a little envelope that you need to pop the film into to send it off for development (if you’re in Europe). What you get in return is a box of beautifully mounted slides (like your uncle used to make you watch after he returned from his holiday in Benidorm) that feels nostalgic and look pretty.
Kodachrome 64 works best in lush full sunlight, allowing the reds to pop out at with vibrant exuberance. Under overcast skies you get more sombre tones but with a little kick of color.
I’m surprised I haven’t seen it reviewed here before seeing as it’s such a classic. Sadly, it is no longer and I’ve been stalking my local Boots for the remainder of their stocks (they have a wonderful 3for2 deal on!).
If you haven’t run this gem through your camera then I suggest you give it a whirl pronto before this slice of film history disappear forever.
