Konica Chrome R-100 (35mm, 100 iso) User-Review
written by dazb on July 31st, 2009 , 4 comments (3 votes)

I found a few rolls of this film in a sale. The R100 was replaced with Konica Centuria Chrome 100, which seems to get favourable reviews – subtle colours, nothing too crazy when cross-processed, and a cool retro grain. Already expired in 2002, I didn’t know what to expect. Eager to try it all out, I finished a roll within just a few hours – a rare occurrence for me.

When developed, the negative was a beautiful deep purple. This led to yep, green photos! And my, what a green they are. Nothing over the top, but it really dominates the photo. In some situations it can be quite subtle, and gives the retro feel mentioned with the newer films.

Oh and the grain. I don’t know what I can say about it. It’s a nice, noticeable, coarse, gritty grain – something you’d usually see on higher ISO photos. Not what you’d expect from a ISO100 film! If you can find some of this mega-rare film you should definitely snap get it for the fantastic results it gives!

I mis-typed something in the article - it should be "The R100 was replaced with Konica Centuria Chrome 100", not the other way round. Sorry about that!

I like the cool retro results this film gives :)
