RECAP: Sitting by the Dock of the Bay Meetup

A group of Lomographers wade through the sea of tourists to uncover the often overlooked, quirky, funny and straight up strange sights and sounds of Fisherman's Wharf.

Those that live in San Francisco tend to regard the Fisherman’s Wharf area to be too “touristy” and unrepresentative of the “real” San Francisco. Although it is true that the area is a hotspot for tourism, Fisherman’s Wharf’s unique locales, sights and sounds are undeniably San Francisco. A team of Lomographers took advantage of the great day to capture some interesting images on their cameras.

We started things off by meeting outside of the entrance of The Aquarium of the Bay and made our way to the pier. We started taking shots of the surrounding ships and Alcatraz just a few miles off in the distance.

The walk continued along the pier where we stopped to check out some street performers doing some impressive acrobatics and balancing feats.

From there we found ourselves totally fascinated and immersed in the Musee Mecanique. The Musee Mecanique is a huge collection of mechanically operated musical instruments and antique arcade machines. From current arcade games, to antique games such as Rock Em’ Sock Em’ robots to fortune telling machines, this place kept our cameras and us occupied for quite some time.

Upon exiting we were greeted by a street performer shredding the guitar. He also played his own rendition of “If You’re Going to San Francisco” to onlookers and confused passersby.

We got curious and decided to trek off the main road and took a path that went behind all the shops and restaurants. Back here we ran into some very photographic pelicans who didn’t mind posing for a few close-ups.

We want to thank everyone that came out and made the photowalk so fun! We hope you guys make it to our next meetup and we would love to see more new faces!
