All aboard! Yesterday the SF team unvieled the newest member of the Lomograpic famiily, the La Sardina at the Maritime Park.
We introduced the La Sardina at the Maritime National Historic Park next to Fisherman’s Wharf. We set up on a large cement white bench facing Ghirardelli Square with nautical themed props and hand made signs. The San Francisco Bay with numerous boats and ships docked served as our backdrop and our display looked like a dockside tackle shop. Ship horns could be heard off in the distance as well!
It was a great and sunny day and the band Beat Feet Orchestra, with a “one-woman” performer and accordionist, played for the crowd and curious onlookers. Some even crossed the street from the other side just to check out the band. They performed a mix of original songs and covers, with the Tetris theme being a definite crowd pleaser.
Once Beat Feet Orchestra got to stomping and dancing a big group of kids surrounded the band and started a dance circle! From there, people whipped out their own cell phones to start taking pictures and videos of the high energy being displayed by Beat Feet Orchestra and the kids. We also handed out Goldfish crackers to attendees and people out for a walk to keep going with the fishy theme.
Quite a few random individuals who knew nothing of Lomography came up to complement the camera and display, and simply ask what was going on. One couple even stopped to tell us how “cute” everything was. Most importantly, we got the opportunity to speak to fellow Lomographers and curious passerbys about the La Sardina and its features. After having taking a couple shots with it, the reaction to the camera was overwhelmingly positive with many people commenting on its unique design, “charm” and ease of use. They also got a kick out of the sardine cans we were handing out, they were further smitten when they realized the cans came affixed with 10% off coupons for our online shop.
Beforehand, we encouraged attendees to dress up in their best nautical attire and the best dressed Lomographer would get to take home a La Sardina camera! The winner was a diehard Lomographer who showed up in his custom-made steam punk inspired goggles and captain’s hat. He built and fashioned all the copper work himself!
We want to extend a big hearty thank you to everyone who attended and all the new friends we made! See you guys again!
