The University takes Lomography seriously, which is why we have been invited by the Complutense University of Madrid to give a one week workshop on analogue photography, Lomography: Analogue creativity in Photography.
The Complutense University is one of the oldest universities in the Spanish speaking world, as well as the biggest, with over 90,000 students. It is well known for its summer courses and an open forum on science, culture and society. Courses, colloquia, round tables, seminars and workshops, the principle function of which is to develop a platform and forums for exchanging ideas and transferring knowledge. These courses and seminars take place every year in July in the unrivalled San Lorenzo de El Escorial, a world heritage site located 50km from Madrid.
And that is where we come in. It is our honour to announce a one-off and unique Lomography workshop comprising five full days and evenings surrounded by society’s elite, top leaders and thinkers of science, humanities, politics and communication. And of course we cannot forget Lomographers.
Comprehensive and practical photography workshops – Full immersion into analogue photography; covering all styles and techniques; lighting, portrait, landscape, framing, misframing, lights, shades, darkness, special effects, bricolage, different sensitivities of film- 5 full days and nights dedicated to you.
Up to 12 applicants can be accepted on this very special workshop. Applications are governed by the rules of participation of the Complutense University.
Requirements for a place on the course are set out below:
- a portfolio in pdf or jpg with a minimum of 20 low resolution photos.
- a jpg file of a LomoWall in low resolution containing approximately 30 images.
- a letter addressed to the director of the workshop, outlining why you wish to be admitted to the workshop as well as a brief academic history, either professional or artistic.

Workshop dates: 19 – 23 of July 2010
The workshops include:
- 5 full days
- The lending of lomographic cameras, Lomo L-CA+, Horizon, Diana, etc
- All the necessary 35mm and medium format film
- All developing, scanning and copying to paper
- All the necessary material for making a LomoWall
- Breakfast, lunch and dinner
- Accommodation in a hotel in El Escorial
- Entry to all artistic representations organised by the University: theatre, recitals, cinema and concerts
The fee applied by the Complutense University for this workshop is a one-off payment of €350, which includes everything mentioned above. You will be informed of admission to the course in writing.
