Water is Life! The Viva con Agua and Lomography Competition ended about 3 years ago

Besides the air we breathe, water is the most fundamental source of life. It's around us every day: Wet, precious, simply beautiful – unfortunately it's too often taken for granted. Viva con Agua de Sankt Pauli & Lomography want to draw attention to the beauty of this element. Show us your best water pictures and tell us how important water is to you and win some fantastic prizes!

Kids playing under a lawn sprinkler, naked feet in a river, a picture painted with watercolors, fish in an aquarium, the daily shower, snorkeling in the sea… water is always there – everyday, everywhere. We take it for granted and don’t often think about how life would be if we wouldn’t have it.

Did you know that almost 1 billion people don’t have access to clean drinking water and over 2.5 billion live with poor sanitation facilities? Viva con Agua de Sankt Pauli is a charitable organisation based in St. Pauli, Hamburg (Germany), which raises awareness on these issues by organising fundraising events. The funds go entirely to Welthungerhilfe, a private, politically independent, non-denominational, non-profit-organisation. The majority of the funds are used for the realization of drinking water projects worldwide using individually adapted solutions.

Water is Life!

Viva con Agua & Lomography want to see your best water shots. Show us the beauty of this precious element! You are totally free in your submission – it can be a river, waterfall, swimming pool, the sea, underwater pictures, bottle of water, raindrops… it’s up to you. But this competition is not only about submitting your best photos, we also want to know what you would miss the most without water. Share your thoughts with us in the photo description. Read on for more details.

Prizing:

  • 3 grand prize winners:
The best 3 pictures will be published in the German Viva con Agua print magazine DROP! in November and they will be shown in a photo gallery on the Viva con Agua website www.vivaconagua.org for a longer time. The winners will get a free copy of the DROP! magazine and a Viva con Agua T-shirt (available as women’s and men’s shirts in all sizes). Additionally we’re giving away some Lomographic goodies. Each winner gets a La Sardina camera with flash as well as the brandnew Lomography Berlin City Guide.
  • 7 runners up:
7 runners up will be shown in the photo gallery on the Viva con Agua website together with the 3 grand winner photos and get 15 Piggies each as well as the super new Berlin City Guide.

Details:

  • Film/Camera Type: Any analogue photo not digitally enhanced or manipulated.
  • Upload Limit: 3 images + filled out photo description. The description can contain a maximum of 1,000 characters. We want to know what you would miss the most without water? Just write some lines and share your thoughts with us. You can write one text and use it for all 3 submitted photos. You don’t need to write a different description for each photo. Please keep in mind the water theme. You are totally free in your submission – it can be a river, waterfall, swimming pool, the sea, underwater pictures, bottle of water, raindrops… it’s up to you. Show us the beauty of this element!
  • Minimum Photo Dimensions: Submissions must be at least 768px in either width or height. You must have a high resolution image available (minimum 300 dpi)

Please do not forget to also include an answer to the question "We want to know what you would miss the most without water?" You can add a text to your pictures in your lab.

you do know that the max character limit "1.000" as in "number one [dot] zero zero zero" means ONE character right? unless you mean a max THOUSAND character limit description as in "1,000" or number one [comma] zero zero zero. just saying (:

1,000 letters :) sorry. But in Germany you use a dot to write THOUSAND :) I will change that to limit confusion. Thanks for the comment!

I couldn't work out how to where/how to put my answer to "what would I most miss without water" so I've put it in the comments box under my submissions - I hope this is okay!
