Self-portraits are the first few shots that newbie Lomographers will be taking of, with their new Lomography gear. This is our inspiration for the competition that ignited our Rumble Week 2010! We invited a special guest judge to take a look at our pool of entries and here are his picks!
Our Rumble Week 2010 started off with a special tribute to the newbies in the Lomography community! Armed with their newly acquired Lomographic cameras – a first step to photography, or a shift from digital, maybe? – our newbies shared with us their first few shots of themselves!
For this rumble we invited cyan-shine, Lomographer extraordinaire, to sift through the photos and pick the most outstanding newbie shots. Here are his choices! Congrats to all the winners, each winning 10 Piggies!

This double exposure/self portrait is a fantastic example of creativity! I might also be biased as it reminds me of a double exposure of my grandfather, although he had projected himself into a coffee cup. Anyway, I regard this image as near the pinnacle of double exposure awesomeness! Well done! :D

Ok, I mean this little guy is 3 years old. He shoots better than me already. It’s in his genes baby! Keep up the good work buddy!

I wish I had shot this. I love it. I’m a sucker for side lighting and grain and low key. Underexposed, yes. Magnificent nonetheless? No doubt!!
makny (5 months)
I didn’t immediately realise this is a self-portrait. I was startled by the resemblance to a comic book! Great image, it feels as if you get sucked in :o

I really like the colour and the stars in this double exposure self-portrait :) Congratulations!

This picture demonstrates the power of our ancient relics. It was taken with a Nikon FM2 with TMax 400 film. I’d love to know what lens it was taken with. Look at the awesome sharpness and the lovely bokeh! A whole different class of equipment!
engie_bec (4 months)
The hallowed power of the Horizon unleashed in a flurry of creativity! This self-portrait poses many questions, such as “what is self?”, “what is time and space?”, “why is my self-portrait so blurred?”
For our winners, please head on to our new Member’s Benefits FAQ section for queries on Piggy Points and further information. Congratulations and thank you for continuously supporting our rumbles!

I still can't quite believe it! Uoh.. Yuppi!!!
The lens, actually, kinda breaks the relics thing, since its a more recent Nikkor 50mm, but its what my dad had on when I, kinda, stole the camera from him... I guess I should to thank him also..
Thank you so much everyone! This newbie, is quite happy!..

Glad you liked the selection and again congratulations to the winners!
It was REALLY tough, there were so many great pictures!
Sorry for posting so late but I am in Athens on lomographic pursuits and am not connected to the web.
@photohuggers aah, the Nikkor 50mm... 1,8? Either way it's one of my favourites just because of its crispness :D
