Concert Photography with Fuji Neopan and Superia
written by recurving on February 14th, 2009 , 35 comments (0 votes)

My most beloved films when I go to concerts are both from Fuji – the Neopan 1600 ISO black and white and Superia 1600 ISO negative film. Both guarantee I don’t need a flash and can work with the “natural” light situation.

Not needing a flash comes into favor – most people snatch away with their digital cameras mostly have an automatic flash that always fires away. And when they check their LCD screens afterwards, all they see are the back heads of the people standing in front of them, fully bright and in focus!

Above you find some shots that I’ve taken over the my last year’s share of concerts. We thought we could make this interesting and make a small competition out of this. So here goes:

Anybody that can name a band (5 in total) in either of these shots will get 5 piggies. BUT – name only one, even if you know more bands than that! If you name more then you will be disqualified from this competition (we want to give everyone a chance here). Let us know what you think in the comments :)

Your technique to watch a concert doesn't work...you are always far from the stage...i can explain some tricks to arrive just few meters from the band if you want :)

My guess is that #9 is Conor Oberst (not sure if it's with Bright Eyes or solo though)...

And Superia 1600 is my favourite too, perfect for the "natural" light captures at concerts! I have a couple of albums in my gallery/beta home...

    @ Alberto:

I quite like the angle, it gives a great view of the lighting and by including the crowd you get a sense of live performance rather than people playing instruments on their own. I usually try to get a bit of both, have a peek at my flickr:

Hey, this was FUN =) I think I can nail the drunkards on #8 too, but I guess I'll have to keep it to myself to avoid disqualification..........

oh, made a mistake: that's conor oberst on 2 and 9...

@-a-l-b-e-r-t-o- haha, i kind of agree. i don't move around that much during concerts - mostly because i am forgetting taking any shots at all because i enjoy the concerts that much...

Thanks =) I totally knew that was "Friska Viljor" from Sweden, I was even more sure of them than Conor Oberst after checking their myspace, I'm so relieved that I was right on my first guess =) Thanks again!
