You don't need a canvas and some pastels to paint! As long as you have a camera with a long time exposure function and a light source you are ready to go!
In celebration of our new Diana F+ Glow in the Dark camera we’re getting familiar with her long-exposure capabilities and setting the scene a-glow with one of our favourite analogue techniques – light-painting!
What you need:
- A camera with a long time exposure setting (Diana, Lubitel, LC-A+…)
- A light source like a torch (or many light sources)
- A flash
- Your imagination
- An assistant or a cable release-like modification – as you can’t hold the shutter open and perform light painting tricks at the same time!
Method:
- Think about the scene you want to create.
- Set up your camera and the shutter setting to B.
- Release the shutter and keep holding it open.
- Use the light source/torch to paint the scene or write a word… the choice is yours. Remember to switch it off!
- Then use one shot of your flash to delicately light the background of your shot.
- Take your finger off the release lever to close the shutter.
Note: This is a basic method. With practice you will gain confidence to use more tricks!
Details:
- Any analogue camera allowed
- “Light-painter Picasso Award” on the homes of the top 3 winners (+ 10 piggies each)
- 10 picture upload limit
