We are proud to announce that we are hosting a collaboration with Alessi’s Ark, a hugely – creative individual who is an integral part of the London nu-folk scene alongside Noah & The Whale, Laura Marling and Mumford & Sons, Alessi has developed a reputation for her music’s otherworldly qualities since bursting onto the UK scene earlier this year.
Musician and Lomography enthusiast, Alessi, kindly allowed us an exclusive first listen to her brand new song ‘The Asteroids Collide’. We like it a lot – have a listen yourself by clicking the link below. The task at hand is for you to listen to the song, get inspired, and dig out from your personal archives the photos that you think best would fit this song. But, as this competition is running over a month, and as you may not have that “perfect” photograph lying around there is plenty of time to go out, get inspired and snap away! The best photos, as judged by Alessi and a jury at Lomography, will be used to produce a music video that is set to be released in early 2009.
Details
- Any analogue camera allowed
- Each photo (about 30 in total) that will be chosen by Alessi and the jury to feature in the video will receive a copy of Alessi’s debut album as well as being mentioned by name in the video
- One grand prize winner will be chosen that will additionally be given a Diana Deluxe Kit
- No upload limit for this competition
- The competition ends on the 18th of December
- Minimum Dimensions at least 768px either width or height, the bigger the better

To find out a little bit more about Alessi, here are her responses to a few questions that we asked her:
Describe yourself in 5 words
Daughter, Sister, Clumsy, Busy hands
What inspired you to write ‘The Asteroids Collide’?
The physical effect love can have on your body. And a friend who lives far away.
What is the most appealing aspect of Lomography to you?
Lomography encourages sharing and that’s something I try to do as often as I can with anything I feel is special.
What should one keep in mind when one listens to your music?
I hope it becomes a friend that gives you ideas.
What is your most memorable photographic experience?
(Photograph pictured above)
Earlier this year, when recording the album was coming to an end, with the ever generous help of friends out in Omaha, a family portrait of people I wanted to thank for helping with the album was taken. A lovely local photographer named Dana Damewood positioned us all in the Scottish Masonic Hall in downtown Omaha in-front of a beautiful forest backdrop. The ladies were sat on tree stumps, the fellows were stood behind them and there were even a few little babies there. As well as writing ‘thank-you’s’ for the album, I really wanted a photograph to be taken of us all together. The album turning out the way it did was all down to special souls and a lot of them of are in that photograph.
Alessi’s Ark is signed to Virgin Records. She releases her debut EP ‘The Horse’ on the 8th December 2008.You can pre-order your copy of ‘The Horse EP’ by clicking this link – http://www.recordstore.co.uk/home.jsp?wherefrom=productdetail.jsp?productPK=unittest-A2n2rT829fDCDYlTpN3IEb-13. Lyrics of the song
Your eye lashes they act as cloaks for your telescope eyes
Your ears they point skyward,
Transmitting mockingbird’s call to the skies
With the shudder of your boots,
Moon dust reach the roots of the neighbourhood’s favourite tree
Be friends with me
The Asteroids Collide
The feelings liquidise
You’re safe
You’re scared
The weight that you haul
Leaves cracks in the wall
You’re safe
You’re scared
You’re enclosed and in love
Your little white dove
She flutters and mutters your name
According to accordian
Your outspoken loudspeaker shines
Hyacinths hypnotise
Your black hair is pushed back
Thin skin is does lack any colour or trace of the sun ray’s race
The television’s flickering
The frequency you’re giving off is a powerful thing
Tell me why does love fly in, fly out when you’re barely looking?
I swear I was not, I was not looking
The Asteroids Collide
The feelings liquidise
You’re safe
You’re scared
The weight that you haul
Leaves cracks in the wall
You’re safe
You’re scared
You’re enclosed and in love
Your little white dove
She flutters and mutters your name
Tell me why does love fly in, fly out when you’re barely looking?
I was not looking
The anchor clanks
Your heart sank
Your body locks
Your ship it has docked
New life has find the island
And you’re stuck
On the island
