Lubitel 166+ – My First Rolls
written by scootiepye on November 22nd, 2008 , 14 comments (4 votes)

A selection of shots here to show you from my very first few rolls shot with the new Lubitel 166+. I have been waiting for this particular camera to arrive for a week or so now as stocks were a little delayed – but a ring on my door bell this morning dragged me out of my warm bed – but I’m so glad that it did because HELLO SUNSHINE !

I unpacked her ladyship fast, I was excited , I played with all the buttons, open and shutting it, twisting & turning it in my hands again and again – seeing how much I could already figure out by myself … then I read up on the area’s I was not sure about. It’s pretty easy to understand, but I would recommend reading the manual that comes with it to at least refresh your mind – if not to teach you how to use this black boxed wonder the best.

I always think however that experimenting yourself is the very best way to discover it all for yourself. The lens quality is really good, very clear focus. The main body is light but sturdy, the mechanism is genius! The possibilities are endless! I decided first off all to try my hand at 120 roll film – so here are the results.

I am thrilled to shoot more – it put a big smile on my face and uh huh I do recommend you get one to try out, it’s the most fun I have had since throwing flickr balloons at Photokina at snoop – incidentally we were aiming at someone else , snoop just happened to get in the way ! OOOpppps how we laughed … sorry snoop! Yum flickr muffins …

So yes ok back to the Lubitel … tip top say I. So ermmmmmmmmmm what is next to shoot with this new boxed funster – maybe 35mm, doubles, endless panoramic ? I am not sure but those questions I will dream about until my next adventure …

My flat bed scanner is busted & I need to get a new one - so I have a *question* for all please - which is the best flat bed scanner available to scan 35mm negatives on so that you can see the holes - because lets face it ! they are just sooooooooooooooo sexi !

or did anyone have a lab come up with an amazing fast and cheap way to do this yet ? Spectrum in newcastle as working on this right now - no promises but they are trying!

    H ...

    @mephisto19 - just as soon as I bed a new flatbed !

if you want excellent result and you have more budget. i would think suggest you to get a Epson V700. which can scan medium format and 35mm.
another cheaper scanner would be Epson V500 which can scan medium format and 35mm too.

epson V700 can scan more at once.

any scanner that can scan medium format should be able to scan the sprocket hole.

if you really want to find a cheap one. Epson V300. a 35mm scanner, you can scan sprocket hole with this scanner too. by removing the film holder when you scan it :P

V500 would be a good choice for low budget.

I'm using Epson V500... No problem scanning sprocket holes and the quality is good , I got it last Xmas and am totally satisfied with it! The only mess is scanning doubles if you can't cut the film (due to overlapping) but you can always manage in some way!
Oh and btw, great pics, I'm such a fan of your colors!!

Helen I have a Canoscan 8600 the same as Stephan and you can scan the sprocket holes by putting either the negs directly onto the glass or onto a piece of plexiglass (I used an old IKEA picture frame and removed the pane and use it now in my scanner). When using the plexiglass you avoid those gaussian rings you sometimes see on negs

    and btw: Brilliant Lubi+ pictures!!!

@graefin - ok great will it also scan 120 negs just as well ?
