Lomo LC-A is an amazing compact 35mm rangefinder camera which provides over-saturated, blurry, vignetting, and with a vintage twist photographs, especially with x-processed 35mm slide film.

This camera has a flash hotshoe, tripod thread, ISO selector (25 to 400 ISO), telescopic viewfinder with luminous picture-limiting frame, distance selector (from 0.8m to infinity), diaphragm selector (from 2.8 to 16), light meter and wide angle lens Minitar 1, it is powered by 3 SR44 silver oxide button batteries. The body of the camera is solid but compact made out of metal and it has a device which protects the lens and viewfinder from any dust or scratches, it is ideal to carry everywhere, you can easily put it in a pocket and it is great to “shoot from the hip”.

I’ve found my original LCA in a small and old photo shop, it was in mint condition but the shutter didn’t work, I’ve bought it for 25€ and a small repair brought her back to life; since then a carry it always with me, I can use it in any situation even without flash, it’s a great camera for long exposures but what really leaves me amazed is the photos taken in sunny days with slide film, the colors and saturation are really amazing. One of the things I dislike (probably the only one) in this camera is the lack of a cable release thread which now is available on LCA+ but, for me it really, doesn’t matter, blurry photos turns out great on LCA. Too bad that LCA where discontinued but I guess that LCA+ is almost the same thing, especially with Russian lens.

Tips:

  • Shoot from the hip.
  • Don’t be afraid to photograph at night, just keep it steady and everything will turn out just fine.
  • Try double exposures, you won’t regret it.
  • Select different ISO from your film.
  • Use and abuse slide films, then x-process them.
  • Cover the light meter with your finger for over-exposures
  • Use Colorsplash flash, day or night, for colorful photos.

Things I like in this camera:

  • Roughness
  • Saturation
  • Colors
  • Very easy to use
  • Lens and viewfinder blinds
  • Lens
  • Viewfinder

Things I dislike in this camera:

  • Lack of tripod thread

I think it's not "rangefinder" camera but zone focus or scale focus camera.

@ ethermoon: You´re probably right, I saw some spec on a website and they classified it as "point-and-shoot", thanks for commenting :)
