This is obviously not the case, but it’s a great feeling! I have never been disappointed with a single picture taken with this piece of plastic magic. I have tried several different films (color negative, B&W, slide) and loved it all! I recommend this camera to photographic newbies or seasoned shooters like myself. There is no wrong way to take a picture with this. Close your eyes, open your mind, and click away!
About 2 years ago, my friend Anna told me about a camera that she had randomly picked up at an Urban Outfitters. I had been doing digital photography with a DSLR for a couple years, so naturally I was interested in the unknown world of film photography. The camera she had told me about was the Fisheye no. 1. I saw that the brand was Lomography and I had absolutely no clue what it was! I searched around the net and looked at some shots from this quirky little plastic beauty and decided I must have one. I never really got around to buying it until a year later when I was taking a vacation in Washington, D.C. and happened to find one in an Urban Outfitters store. I picked up some film and starting shooting right away. I had never really read anything about this camera so I had no idea what I was doing. I kind of lucked out loading the film correctly the first time and just started clicking away. I took it everywhere on that trip… I took pictures of random people, dogs, subway stations, monuments, random buildings, everything. I had no idea what any of the pictures would look like which made this whole experience twice as thrilling.
As soon as I got back from the trip, I brought the film in to be developed and anxiously waited to see my shots. I was stunned! I had used a cheap film so the colors didn’t impress me much, but the shots were incredible. The shots I thought would be garbage were as unique and awesome as the ones I intended to compose well. The shots quickly went up on my Deviant Art and Flickr pages and I have been in love with Lomography ever since.
170-degrees of beauty in every shot. Easy to load, shoot, and unload. It was a relief! I had been so engrossed in digital photography that this whole world of quirky and strange photos had completely evaded me up to that point. This camera has been the most fun I have ever had with a camera. I bring it to parties, get-togethers, even just on walks. Every time I press the shutter button I feel as if I have created a magnificent work rivaled by no other photos. This is obviously not the case, but it’s a great feeling!
