Like countless other lomographers out there I’ve had tons of fun with this spectacular camera. The two shutter settings for daylight and long exposure are a joy to experiment with. And oh does it take such lovely long exposures! The lock button is a pretty nifty addition to the original design which prevents accidental shots inside your bag. Now you’re always ready to draw the camera to take a shot while leaving it cocked. While the burst of light from the internal flash is slightly obstructed you have the option to use a stronger and more balanced flash unit like the Colorsplash Flash with the hot shoe mount. Cover the internal flash with color jells and you got a second curtain of color when in the bulb mode. Add the multiple exposure button to the mix and you’ve got virtually limitless styles of shooting available to you.
Despite being a toy camera, it really feels sturdy in my hands, the cool metal jacket is a welcome feature that makes the camera look sleek and more expensive than it really is. My only gripe with this camera is that the rewind crank sometimes feels like it’s about to break and that the lens cover and strap aren’t of the sturdiest of materials. It wouldn’t have hurt for it to have a tripod socket too.
Given the range of capabilities of this funky gem I’d recommend this camera to anyone who wants to dabble in experimental photography in a heartbeat. And for those lomographers who still haven’t tried one, you guys are missing out big time.
