What was your first Lomographic experience? How was it?
I have to say my very first lomographic experience was a big disaster. I was still living in Japan at the time, so it must be at least 10 years ago. Action sampler was featured in a fashion magazine, and I thought it was really cute, cheap, and interesting. So, I went to a store and bought the camera, but I couldn’t even figure out how to load a film in it because I’d never used a manual camera before! Somehow I managed to load a film in the camera (at least I thought I did), but when I had the film developed, nothing came out! Disappointed and bummed out, I put away the camera in the closet until about 4 years later when I was introduced to Lomography by my friend who was in my photo class at the time, and every Lomographic experience have been very amazing after that!
What’s your favorite photography/Lomography trick?
I go through fazes, but at this moment, I’m all about triple exposure, using splitzer on my LC-A+ and long exposure with my Diana+!
What’s your favourite camera + film combo? (and why do you like it?)
Holga and Agfa RSX 200. The color of the film and the vignette from the camera are the perfect match!

Any funny or strange experiences while taking pictures?
I don’t know if this is either funny or strange…it’s a little more on the scary side, but when I went on horseback riding in Ensenada, Mexico, I had my Diana and LC-A hanging from my neck to take pictures while riding my horse. When my horse unexpectedly started running for uphill, my wide angle lens I had on my LC-A fell off the camera!!! I really freaked out, and had my guide pick up my lens. Luckily, the lens fell on the soft sand and came back to me unharmed. I was relieved and continued with my ride happily….until 5 minutes later when my horse started running again and the lens for my Diana fell off!!! I was panicking again, and called over my guide to ask him to go pick it up for me…interestingly, my Diana lens also came back to me safe…well, dusty, but in one piece. At this moment, I was too scared to use the cameras and was just holding on to my cameras with one hand to make sure my lenses won’t fall again…but then guess what? This time the lens cap for my Diana fell off…but after bothering my guide twice, I couldn’t dare to ask him to go pick it up for me, so sadly, I had to say good-bye to my lens cap:( It was just, not my day at all!
Someone wants your photo up on a billboard. Which photo would it be? (and why?)
I would like to use this picture as a P.S.A. (Public Service Announcement) to raise an awareness of animals being mistreated. I adopted my cat from a private animal adoption center about 5 years ago. She was living with 100 cats in a house, and sadly, she was declawed by her former owner. She just passed away after fighting against cancer for a year. As an animal lover, I can’t stand the fact that so many animals are mistreated by people, and often put to sleep as a result all over the country!
If you could collaborate with someone for a Lomographic project, who would it be and why?
This is a tough question because there are so many people I would love to collaborate- anarchy, takezzo, mephisto19, kokakoo, yoscolmi, strangelilgirl…and you! There are so many talented Lomographers here and I am so grateful to be part of this community. I’m sorry if I forgot any of you, but like I said, there are too many people to pick! Oh, and I can’t forget vicuna and stouf! Great Lomographers!

A day in the life of satomi (aka sugiyamasatomi)
Sleep in, take a shower, eat yogurt, work, come home, cook, check what’s going on at Lomo University, make fun of my boyfriend, snuggle with my cats, and sleep!
Name three things that inspire you.
Amazing pictures from other Lomographers, coincidences, and anything out of the ordinary in the ordinary!
What’s keeping you busy lately?
LC-A race!!! I still need to catch up on my sleep

Recommend something good! (book, place, food…anything, really :)
As a proud Japanese, I would like to recommend Japanese history! So many great ancestors created what we have now! I specially admire Ryoma Sakamoto, the greatest revolutionary in Japanese history!
