We definitely should give a deep bow to our crazy Malay Lomographers whose great enthusiasm of photography keeps exceeding our expectation! They travelled north to Penang Island (a place well known for its unique culture and fine heritage buildings) to spread their love of analogue photography, by organizing a Lo-Fi Camera exhibition!
Their final destination was the exhibition. The content of that exhibition came from their journey from their homes to the gallery where the exhibition would take place. Right after their arrival they processed the films taken during the journey and quickly arranged their exhibition, and peeps, that’s the true spirit of Lomography – spontaneous, analogue, full of life! While the trip was filled with happy moments, it wasn’t without its downtime when one of the Lomograpehrs called Edmund got a blank roll of film from his out-of-battery LC-A (he didn’t give up and succeeded in his second roll).
They filmed their journey and produced this documentary called “樂魔 the Negative Effect”. The chinese words 樂魔 (reads lè mó) are the phonetic translation “Lomo” in Mandarine (one of the most spoken dialects in Malaysia). Let’s check out the trailer.
“樂魔 the Negative Effect” is a light and easy, true to life documentary, with the storyline implying a group of the youngsters being obsessed and determined in film/lomo photography, yet they are now living in this new age digital world. For them, it was the greatest joy being united together to the journey of their dream – freestyle in photography. – Offical website of “樂魔 the Negative Effect”
