For the first time on “Doubles With You” we show doubles done on an infrared film. Warning, these photos just might blow your mind!
“After having done a couple of film swaps Lomodirk suggested that we tried something quite different, namely doing doubles with a false color infrared film. Soon after Dirk bought some expired Kodak Aerochrome 1443 infrared film (400 iso) in 35mm format for the doubles.
When using a false color infrared film like this you will need some sort of filtering, and different filters yields quite different results, so we decided that we would also go with different filters for an interesting effect. Dirk would use a red filter which typically gives yellow and greens with this film and I would go with the more standard orange filter which typically gives lots of blue and some red or magenta colors in the shots. At this point we had actually no idea if it would even work to do doubles with this film.
Dirk loaded his Olympus OM2N with the film and a yellow filter and shot cityscapes in Nürnberg, Germany as if it was a 800 iso film. Afterwards he sent it to me in Copenhagen, where I loaded it in my LC-A+, set the iso to 800 and slapped on an orange filter and the tunnel vision lens, and took the camera with me on a trip to my grandmother in a small town called Munke Bjergby.
When I got the developed transparencies back I was blown away. The exposures were pretty good and our filter experiment had worked magic. The pictures were extremely colorful, but not only restricted to a couple of colors as you would typically see with this type of film. The pictures turned out red, yellow, blue, magenta and some of them even a little green. Our experiment had succeeded, and more doubles of this kind will definitely follow!"
