Doubles With You - Lomodirk + Gemma81de
written by lomodirk on February 13th, 2009 , 7 comments (1 vote)

This week we bring you a true Lomographic mix on “doubles with you.” Add a LC-A+ and a Pop9 and suddenly you are upside down – as the Lomographers from Germany themselves put it. This is what they had to say:

“This is a collaboration of two Lomographers based in Germany, lomodirk in Nuremberg and gemma81de in a village near Frankfurt/Main. We used some old Fuji RD 100 slidefilm (that`s what was printed on the box) which expired in 1989. Our doubles fateful first meeting took place at the unofficial lomoforum.de congress in 2007 in Frankfurt where we decided to do some doubles. But that might have been too easy…

After being exposed for the first time by lomodirk and his PoP9 during a visit in Munich, this film had to wait for several months in the closet, until we finally made it to push this project forward. When gemma81de received the roll she decided not to shoot it immediately, but instead wait for the right time to get a special finish. (Truth be told, at the time she was busy with some other doubles and her LC-A was first occupied and then broken so it took several months until lomodirk’s film could receive the attention it deserved.) Almost one year passed away and gemma81de got finally her LC-A+ and was now in the mood to sort this double out. After a short trip to Nuremberg – luckily lomodirk shot the first layer in Munich – she finished the second layer and got some really mad results. It was a bit tricky always choosing the perfect ASA setting based on the light condition so both layers would be equally strong. But most often it turned out well.

But the most fun was that we really didn`t have a clue which results there would be. Have fun and expect the unexpected!"

Doubles are pretty random we’ll give you that. Especially when you do them with a another Lomographer that has no clue about what you shot. But if you plan your project well, and select the cameras and film accordingly – it is still possible to have some idea of what you outcome will be. Of course, only if you want to.

Either way, doubles are a great way to experiment and to get the most of ones analogue experience! Have you already tried this? Then let us now by submitting your best doubles to the magazine New to doubles? Looking for a new partner? Let others know by posting in the comments!

I can't belive it took a year to get done. That's crazy, but patience has its rewards.
