My Lomo Story
written by mantozauras on February 11th, 2009 , 6 comments (1 vote)

My friendship with Lomography was a very logical step in my life. It could have started earlier, but luckily it began just in time. All my life I was very interested in old stuff. Old pictures in my grandparents’ album interested me more than new technologies with the digital photography ahead. After school I joined Vilnius University, to take my Bachelor’s Degree in Archival Science, when one day, we had a trip to the audiovisual archive of Lithuania. I was so touched with all these old photos – they made a deep impression that I decided to try to do some “retro” pictures by myself.

Luckily it is very easy to find Zenit camera in Lithuania so I got one and began to shoot. It was a very good experience in photography because Zenit E is a totally mechanical camera and everything you must do by yourself. The second logical step was to seek more info about analog cameras. Thanks to the almighty Google which showed me a miracle – THE LOMOGRAPHY SOCIETY INTERNATIONAL website. The Lomo Fisheye camera was my love at the first glance, so I bought it! It is a truly wonderful camera. Using this plastic piece of wonder makes me happy!

Lomo LC-A was love at the second glance. It is not very expensive for the regular, all-day working man. But as a struggling student I said: “Oh no, maybe next time.” Thanks to lomography.com, it provided opportunities to use piggies, and after hard efforts and a little piece of luck, my LC-A dream came true. That’s when I felt like a real Lomographer! And now I am that guy with strange cameras without LCD screens and other “regular” stuff for cameras. I am happy that people ask about Lomography and some of my friends felt the same way I did – “F**k the digital, analog forever!”

This is my last confession:

Yes I am a Lomo addict.

Yes I have a lot of cameras and I love them all. So what? Why can’t one person use 5 cameras at the same time?

Yes, you are right, my friend. This colourful mess is a collection of my pictures from my Holidays.

No I am not crazy (yet).
