A Tree Story
written by mattcharnock on January 8th, 2009 , 8 comments (0 votes)

In January of last year I loaded a roll of 120 into my Rolleicord and walked to work. On the way I passed a tree that I have photgraphed many, many times, but on this walk I had an idea. I took one shot and put my camera away.

My idea was to document the tree over the course of the year.

So the pictures you see here are all from the same roll of film and all of the same tree. Sadly two of the pictures didnt turn out but never mind. Also, I thought I had loaded Black and white film but I hadn’t. But I was pleased with the result and have desaturated the images to see what it would look like.

It was an interesting project as each month the light was different or there was something slightly different to look at, so I couldn’t keep the composition the same. Also it meant I had to take my camera to work everyday waiting for the shot. A coupel of times I regretted the day I chose to take the shot as the next day the light was better.

I think I might do the project again but with a different subject… any ideas?

Really great idea. There are so many possibilities. Even just a self portrait under a set condition (same spot / lighting etc.) once a month would be interesting.

yes, i know this kind of shooting. i remember i saw a "actionsampler type" of picture where a big tree was catched in 4 seasons.
matts work is a bit different and more "out of focus". on the pictures isnt only a simple tree...i like it.
