My LomoStory
written by cruzron on December 5th, 2008 , 4 comments (0 votes)

My Lomo story started roughly around 3 years ago. Believe it or not, I do not have any photos at all to show before my Lomo life. Not one.

I was stuck in a rut and was cruising the Internet for something that will pique my curiosity. Then it hit me. A bolt of light, a wave of supersaturated color. Life stopped for 1/125th of a second. I was in love.

I looked. I read. I looked some more. I voraciously sped through all the information I could get online about Lomography and I was hooked. By the time I was ready to buy a camera, I found out that there was no embassy to speak of here and the shops that sold some cameras had gone the way of the dodo. I was hooked and I needed to get my fix. I couldn’t afford an LCA yet so I got a Holga instead. I sped through 6 rolls shooting anything I could see. I quickly went to the developing lab for some contact print goodness.

Everything was blank.

I had no idea about apertures, shutter speeds, or exposure at all for that matter. Clearly, shooting with this plastic behemoth needs a bit of thinking. My heart sank but I refused to give up. But once you understand how the Holga works and where it excels, it will definitely blow you away.

I retired the Holga for a bit since 120s are a bit scarce and I saved up for an LCA. I still sucked pretty bad. Here is my 1st ever LCA photo which inspired me enough to read on still about the intricacies of photography.

Little did I know that this little treatise with Lomography 3 years ago will change my life as I know it. And here I am, one of Lomography’s newest employees.

    Thanks!

I guess its a matter of not giving up and learning and improving roll by roll.

    Lomo on!
