The Diana+ 35mm Back
written by pan_dre on July 22nd, 2008 , 26 comments (2 votes)

It’s difficult to choose between two lovers. On one hand, there’s the radiant colors, quirky square format, and wonderful rolling action of 120 film. On the other, there’s the incredible variety, el cheapo price, long-lasting nature, and easy development of 35mm. For the aficionados of the Diana+ and Diana F+ cameras, the choice no longer has to be made! This black hunk of plastic is essentially a marriage certificate for a blissful polygamous union of marriage to two analog film spouses at once!

Expressly designed for the Diana+, this 35mm Back is fully interchangeable and easily pops on and off your camera. A new dawn of 35mm creativity has risen into the sky, and it’s our pleasure to embark on a mission of multi-format exploration with you – one color-drenched, Diana-dreamy, and slightly leaky shot at a time.

  • Shoot all types (color, slide, b&w) of 35mm film with your Diana+ and Diana F+ cameras
  • Two integrated exposure counters tell you the precise frame you’re on
  • Choose from four different image formats (more on that below!)
  • Interchangeable accessory that can be easily installed and removed (note, it cannot be changed mid-roll)

Four amazing formats

This, my friends, is just the tip of the 35mm iceberg. Allow us to show you what it can really do.

Each Diana+ 35mm back includes a series of plastic frames – allowing you to choose from one of four different formats on everyday 35mm film. Two exposure counters are built into the Back, so you can keep close tabs on how much you’re shooting.

Listen closely, this is really crucial: When using the Diana+ 35mm back your shutter release and film advance is not connected. This means that – just like with the Diana+’s normal 120 film – you can shoot as many exposures as you like and advance as far (or as little) as you like. Even though the Back perfectly shoots the four formats above, it’s capable of all sorts of super-panoramics, overlapping squares, multiple-exposed rectangles with breaks in the middle – or a single never-ending image which stretches the ENTIRE LENGTH OF YOUR FILM ROLL!

Add in the variables of our many Diana+ lenses (and the Pinhole setting!), and you’re talking an infinite amount of possibilities. This is a radically new development in the world of 35mm analog photography, and we’re quite excited to travel hand-in-hand with you on the path of discovery.

Exclusive 35mm Back Packages: Offer expires Tuesday 29th July

Anyone who swoons over a plastic Diana+ lens, hungers for a light leak, or yearns for a heavy dose of vignetting should try their hand with this all-new 35mm machine. For the next week, we’re thrilled to offer these exclusive Diana+ Packages to make this the tasty 35mm Back that much sweeter.

Can you scan the sprockit holes with a film scanner?
    If so which one(s)?

you can enjoy your results either by
    a) ask the lab for contact sheets (but the real ones, analogue!!!), you can see the images but they are small and not as sharp as scans

    b) get a flatbed scanner with a "transparent material adaptor" - this means it is able to scan prints as well as negatives. the advantage over dedicated film scanners is the ability to use various frames, self-built ones or even no frames.
or at least get a scanner with medium format option.

the epson perfection series starting from the V200 seems to be a good choice. we operate one too in the archive, but i´m sure there are enough other good scanners out there.

    c) try to find a lab that can print analogue and ask them to do the full business or start to do so yourself

    :)

why not something like this for the holga too?

i'm not sure if this would work with any of the old dianas, as i don't have any to test it with, but if anyone would like to report on a model that it fits, feel free...

of course, there already is a 35mm back for the holga... it is much more limited and franky doesn't hold a candle to the diana+ back...

as you know, lomography does not produce the holga, so you'd have to take up that issue with holga... since lomography does produce the diana+ line, the focus for new products is for the diana cameras... :)

Ahhh!! Oh yeah!!! It took me only three days to figure out which diana f+ pack would be best for me and then you're throwing this great feature here on the market and I'm realizing: I need the 35mm back as well! Okay, I need to think about this again...

Hi!!! This looks so great, but I have one question. Do you still have to unload the film in a darkroom, or is there a way to rewind the film back in its spool?
