Winners of the Lomography/JPG Photo Challenge!
written by ouroborosx on July 14th, 2008 , 12 comments (1 vote)

Thank you to everyone who submitted a photo to the Lomography sponsored JPG Photo Challenge: Long-Exposure! It was a resounding success, as we saw so much creativity that it made our heads spin. We are very grateful to the JPG community for crossing streams with the Lomographic community. Hopefully this is just the beginning, as we hope to collaborate with JPG again in the future.

So without further ado, here are the winners.

These 3 winners will each receive a signed Colorsplash Chakra Edition package.

Amazing shots!! Well deserved winners & runners up, congrats to all of them!
And this common challenge with JPG was very interesting, a lot of beautiful shots to see and not only by people from the lomographic community :)) Always good to have contact with other communities... ;))

these are all lovely, for some reason the JPG challenges and website and magazine too make me feel so inadequate about my own photo skill, I think I like the more amateur vibe of LSI, I can be a regular size fish in a regular size pond here.

Not to sound like a party pooper, but being real here...
I don't get what's so original about light writing,
which is what it seems 75% of the submissions were.

Well, the truth is there is nothing original about long-exposure either. The winners were not chosen based on the originality of their technique, as by the quality of their images.

Then what's with all the hype such as "we saw so much creativity that it made our heads spin" and "possibly the most innovative challenge to date". And originality is a huge part of quality, not to mention the whole art of photography. Otherwise we'd just have a bunch of sunsets, light writing, and macros of flowers.

Well, there was a lot of creativity in the submissions. You certainly can be creative using a technique that someone else has already used. I think it is very limited to say that unless someone does something that no one else has ever done that they're not being creative. If that was the case, we'd have had 2 or 3 submissions because there isn't much left in photography to do that no one else has ever done. It's more about craft and execution these days. No one said it was the most innovative challenge to date. I'm sorry if you don't agree with the choices that were made. It's impossible to make everyone happy all the time. I think all of the winners turned in excellent entries and are deserving to be recognized.
    Cheers.

Jpg said it was the most innovative.
I guess I'm just being stubborn.
I actually really like the second runner-up,
because it vaguely reminds me of a Minus the Bear- Planet of Ice photo shoot.
    Pretty sweet.
