Live from the Lomography Gallery Shop Opening in Tokyo

Ten years after establishing Lomography in Japan, one of its most active communities gathered to welcome a brand new Lomographic meeting point in Tokyo.

The house was crammed full at the pre-opening event on Thursday 10th July and was even fuller at today’s grand opening party.
Through the doors poured a bevy of celebrities, publishers, journalists, fashion designers, actors and writers (such as Yamazaki of Barfout, Nishioka from the Asian Shimbun), as well as our esteemed customers and partners, old and new friends (Yoichi Nakamuta & family, Yonehara & family, Tsumura (Final Home), Carlos & Go, Frederic Lebain), the cultural attaché of the Austrian Embassy in Tokyo (Michael Haider) and, last but not least, the crème de la crème of Lomographers.

The Lomography Japan team ceaselessly prepared for the celebration and did a truly marvellous job!

The guests’ passion for food and drink was a great compliment to our neighbouring gourmet (an Italian-Japanese restaurateur whose kitchen is based on the floor directly above the Lomography gallery shop), who indulged the crowd with excellent delicacies (19 different appetizers!) and drinks (stiff and less stiff), which were appreciatively devoured.

The ultimate highlight of both events was the gala concert of Encapella G. Picture, if you will; four venerable Japanese gentlemen in their sixties, dressed up to the nines in Blues Brothers outfits whose only mission it is to spread traditional Enca chant to the masses. The adorable flutist Hisako Yoshikawa topped off the evening with an amazing performance. Other musical treats featured Johann Strauss’s “Danube Waltz” and “I wanna be a pop star”.

The show continues at the Ever-Bar right around the corner. The Lomography Japan Team and the Japanese Lomographers are larging it, Japanese style of course!
