Out to Sea: Alan Davis Beach

6

Having heard about this place from many of my friends, I decided to head down there to see what the fuss was all about! Down there was a perfect, little beach!

I went with my friend Kaili and her family to this beach on Labor Day to hang out for the afternoon. We parked up by the Makapu’u Hike Trail and walked down the dirt and gravel path towards the sparkling water. Kaili and I walked ahead to snap some photos along the way!

After about 10 minutes, we reached the rocks and sand and I saw Alan Davis Beach for the first time. It was amazing, the sun was shining, the water was gorgeous and blue, and it was a beautiful day!

The small beach area is the perfect place for families and kids. There were also a few dogs running around. It’s shallow and the water is warm, great for youngins! There are also places to lie out, tan, and just relax. My boyfriend Conor joined me later, and we had fun taking pictures, having sand fights, and rolling around in the water.

But the best part about this beach is the telephone pole by the rocks! People go there to jump off of it and do flips and tricks. There are so many photo opportunities here! Jumping into the water is exhilarating; it’s just high enough to feel the rush of wind before you plunge into the crisp, cold water. This part of the beach has crystal clear water that’s great for underwater photos. There are lots of corals and rocks at the bottom to look at too. When I get my Krab, I’ll be heading back there to take pictures!

(Can you see the tiny guy jumping off of the pole?)

To climb up, all you have to do is climb the big rocks up to the top and you’re ready to jump again! I wasn’t able to get too many photos here because I don’t have an underwater camera yet. But for those of you that do have one, it’s an excellent spot!

    Fresh from the Lab: 1990

A weekend without a lomowalk seems bad, at least for me. One Saturday morning, I decided to join my friends in their lomowalk. It was all cloudy at first but it didn't stop me from going out and walking. I brought my new Nikon FM2 and some expired rolls, just to test my camera. Was it just me being sleepy, or was my Nikon FM2 acting up? My photos turned out grainy, pale, and, in my opinion, looking so 1990s?

Spinner 360: Pull the Cord and Let the Magic Happen!

The story between the Spinner 360 and I goes way back to the year 2010, when Lomography decided to send me a beta model of the Spinner 360 to test. It was a complete surprise! I thought, "What the hell is that?" as I first took this camera out of the package. Then, when my little brother grabbed it from me and pulled the cord, it buzzed and turned 360°! We all had the same expression: "Whoa..."

Summer Hot Spots: Escaping the Heat at Cameron Highlands

It’s normal during summer to be out there at the beach, sunbathing and getting yourself a nice tan, but in Malaysia, it could get pretty hot this time of the year. With the rising temperature, my friends and I decided to escape the heat of the city for a while and took an approximately three-hour drive to Cameron Highlands.

    An Afternoon in Tagaytay Highlands

I have good memories of Tagaytay Highlands. There had been times when some of my friends and I would spend the weekend there, playing all sorts of sports and having our bodies healed in the warm and lapping jacuzzi pool. But those were distant memories. I was able to go back to this place, but only for an afternoon, and tried to remember the good old days.
