LomoPeople: Johan

This is my handsome friend, Johan. He is a real stand-up guy, always makes me laugh, and he never minds me shoving all my cameras up in his face! He is a great friend!

He is also quite the analogue chap and that’s nice for me because I’m way too attached to my computer. If his computer brok,e I imagine he wouldn’t run out the door to immediately buy a new one, he is pretty chill with it.

He likes to really TALK about things.

I moved home in December 2010, and one night in January we were both up late on Facebook and the chat, I was extremely bored and he was going to watch a movie. It was probably around 11.30 PM, but he still asked me to come over (we lived only 4 minutes away from each other then by walking distance), completely spontaneously. I love spontaneity. So, of course I went over, but I was very excited cause I hadn’t seen him in probably 2.5 years and I hadn’t been home to him in over 10 years. But it’s one of those people I’ve always known because we went to the same school, I had a girl friend and he was friends with her little brother, so we’ve always been around each other, and I’ve always liked him. When he was a kid he had a ton of freckles in his face and he was the first boy I ever had a crush on.

Anyway, I went over to him and it was just a great time, we didn’t end up seeing any movies but instead talked for over 5 hours about everything and anything until it was 5:00 in the morning and I decided to go home so we both could sleep.

He is really inspirational in his approach to life, whatever doesn’t work for him — he changes and if he wants to do something he just outright does it. He has self-confidence to last a marathon around the world 50 times, he works out, he runs every day. If he goes out to a club, he’ll dance until the sweat is pouring from him.

He inspires me because he is a lot of what I’m not, especially when it comes to confidence, so having him as a friend is good in more ways than one.

And last of all, he is damn fine looking, wouldn’t you say?

But I might be biased, he’s been my #1 crush since I was 8 years old. So only 16 years.

He’s great.

My friends and I moved to Brooklyn in the dead of winter, just after a huge snowstorm. I came from California and had no real experience living in snow. All of it was magical to me.

This antique photographic process found in him a renewed inspiration and has since become his passion, which is evident in both his words and his images.
