Outside of the major cities and driving through Maryland in the summertime you can see farmlands and cornfields everywhere! But in the fall, after corn season is over, the landscape begins to change and in one particular area, you’ll come across beautiful fields of sunflowers blooming in the autumn sun.
These sunflower fields are located about a half hour north of Baltimore in a small town called Monkton, MD. We actually parked at a Royal Farms gas station, purchased a few snacks, and took a walk across the street to get a closer view of these amazing flowers.
Usually, when I think of flowers, I think of delicate orchards or violets but don’t be mistaken, these sunflowers are pretty strong and not delicate at all. As a matter of fact, trying to walk through a sunflower field is quite difficult and similar to walking through a corn field where the leaves come back to smack you as you try to maneuver your way through. I felt like I was getting beat up by sunflowers! Embarrassing, right?!
But besides the beating, being in the middle of a field surrounded by tall stalks of yellow sunshine is a re-energizing experience! These shots were taken on a sunny afternoon with no clouds in the sky so it seemed like these flowers went on for miles all around, which is my idea of a perfect fall escape away from the city.
