For the last 5 or 6 years, Leeds City Centre is transformed every Autumn for the annual Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Trans Pride Event - an all singing, all dancing festival welcoming people from all walks of life.
Leeds Pride 2011 was, in my opinion, bigger and better than the previous years. Unfortunately I was unable to attend the morning festivities, where there were stalls, bands and other acts such as Drag Idol around the lovely Millennium Square area of the city centre. Then at 3pm, a procession took place through the town down to the area near the railway arches where there are a number of gay clubs and bars.
This is my favourite element of the pride festival as there is a DJ on stage in the street, which is closed to vehicles for the evening. There is a really great party atmosphere and everyone is drinking, and dancing and visiting the different pubs and spots, enjoying whatever type of music they are into. This continues into the evening with different types of music on 2 stages and fairground rides, street performers (such as stilt walkers, ribbon dancers and face painters) and food stalls.
