1881 Heritage: Day and Night

There are places where photos taken at different times of the day or of the year can end up looking completely different - 1881 Heritage is such a place.

I like walking around Tsim Sha Tsui in Hong Kong with my cameras in my bag and 1881 Heritage is one of the places that I just keep visiting when I am in the area.

Located on Canton Road, Tsim Sha Tsui, 1881 Heritage used to be the headquarters of the Hong Kong Marine Police. It was built 120 years ago with unique Victorian architecture, which epitomizes its rich colonial background. It was declared a monument by the Antiquities and Monuments Office in 1994. Recently, it was refurbished into a shopping mall, a heritage hotel, and an exhibition hall.

Since it re-opened in 2009, 1881 Heritage, with its integration of old and new, has given the city a touch of style that is so different from the other modern buildings around.

People usually only go there to take pictures during festivals such as Christmas. During Christmas, we will be attracted to the very beautiful Christmas tree there. But besides Christmastime, 1881 Heritage is also a great place for taking photos during other times of the year.

1881 Heritage looks so different in daylight and at night.

Its architecture itself is very special and what’s more is that the decorations or exhibits there will be changed from time to time.

On different times of the day or of the year, 1881 Heritage will probably look differently in your photos. I like to shoot it using different films and cameras. Since going there is not very difficult, when you visit Hong Kong, besides just dining out or going shopping at Tsim Sha Tsui, why not drop by there and see if you can capture its unique atmosphere?

Address: No. 2A, Canton Road, Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon, Hong Kong

The Photography of Réka Koti: Lo-Fi Blurs and Foggy Moods

Photo travelogues are often sprightly, the forms defined and the colors sharp. Réka Koti has a completely different interpretation. A location is a basis for experiments. Nature is a double-exposure detail or a nebular extension of her model’s frock. Branches and leaves are blurred to look like paint strokes. The outcome is mysterious, and Lomography can’t help asking: What is the alchemy behind these dusky pictures?

First Impressions of the New Jupiter 3+ Art Lens: Maxime Fardeau

Maxime Fardeau, or Max as he is fondly called, loves film. He has been shooting analogue for about four years and owns a number of 35mm film and instant cameras, such as the Leica M6 and SLR-670 Polaroid. He has taken photos using the Lomo'Instant and the Minitar-1 Art Lens and this time around, he provides a glimpse of the images she produced with the Jupiter 3+ Art Lens.

    Registering Moments With the Lomo'Instant

Some people say instant photos bring about a feeling of nostalgia. Although I often use the Lomo'Instant Camera with different crazy accessories such as the Splitzer and color gels, I have to agree there is something about it — dreamy vignettes maybe? — that always makes me want to go back in time and experience it all over again. In the name of analogue photography and good old memories, we passed by some classic spots in Vienna and took one shot after the other. Take a closer look at our gallery.

    Nishe: Exploring Emotions Through Photography

There's a certain air of sadness in Nishe's portraits. More often than not, the faces of her subjects are either partially or completely hidden. Sad, yes, but undeniably beautiful. Melancholia, as well as loss of innocence and the pains of growing up, are recurring themes in the photographer's body of work and she presents all these quite gracefully.

The World According to Herr Willie: Lake Toba

Talking about the creation of the world. A big bang, meteors hitting planets, ice age and tectonic breakdancing. The world is an incredible start up and the landscapes, that were created through the elements and time. Sometimes your eyes can still see this amazing process in a timelapse. Such a mystical place is Lake Toba in North Sumatra. Or as the locals call it: Danau Toba.

Long Exposures Around Europe with the Minitar-1 Art Lens

One of the things I like the most about the Minitar-1 Art lens is how sharp the focus can be when you shoot with a small aperture. So if you are one of those that like to shoot at night, get a tripod, add this to a late dark winter afternoon, and you will end up with a bunch of beautiful long exposures. This is what I did on my last trip to Europe.
