Pedrogão Beach, Leiria

4

Pedrogão beach is located at north of Vieira Beach, Marinha Grande, on the Portuguese central Atlantic coast (it belongs to Leiria district) and it is one of my favorite beaches nearby; during the winter it is a very quiet and peaceful beach, during the summer it is full of life and fun at any time of the day or night, the village don’t have that traditional style like Vieira beach, architecture is very simple, the beauty of Pedrogão resides on its sandy and sunny beaches and on its bars and restaurants which are located right next to the beach.

Like Vieira beach, Pedrogão subsists from what the locals get from the sea, they also use “arte xávega” fishing style but most of the business depends on the many tourist that arrive all summers. The summer on Pedrogão beach s full of activities which are open to everyone, beach soccer, beach volleyball and much more mini championships and activities that last all summer, you can practice different sports every day or you can relax in a bar with your feet in the sand, enjoying the view to the beach and its amazing sunsets.

Finding lodging is very easy and its not too expensive, there are lots of rooms or houses for rent and a camping site with all the conditions you need, or you can stay at Vieira beach and rent a bike, the distance between the two beaches is short and the terrain is flat, you can do a really nice bike trip enjoying the surrounding nature and amazing landscapes.
Every time I need to relax and make some really good use of my LCA, I go to Pedrogão, every time I visit it, I always find new subjects to photograph, I can visit the fish market or I can take advantage of the natural beauty of Pedrogão and its amazing landscapes which makes it one of my election beaches.

Cameras used: Supersampler, LCA and Yashica 35-ME.

'Aniki-Bòbò': A Tribute to Manoel De Oliveira

This article is a tribute to the great Portuguese film director Manoel de Oliveira, who died last April 2. With an old Praktica loaded with a roll of black and white film, I captured so enthusiastically his city Oporto (Porto) with its famous Ribeira district, the most characteristic of the Lusitanian town. It was here that more than 70 years ago, Manoel De Oliveira created a timeless masterpiece: "Aniki-Bòbò"!

Vicuna's Travel Stories | Sunrise in the Desert

Burkina Faso is a country that has three different climatic areas. It's mostly a land of the Sahel, very dry but with some vegetation and a short rainy season. The very south of the country is already in the tropical zone but the north still belongs to the Sahara desert. I had the opportunity to visit this area and witness a magical moment: a sunrise in the desert.

Speakers' Corner: Interview with Photographer Philip Wolmuth

Having a respectable career photographing social, political and economical matters, Philip Wolmuth is capable of starting a dialogue with the public via his thought-provoking photographs. Going through the collective of images on his latest work, it seems impossible not to be instantly affected by the rawness of the emotions captured within the images. The passion, the anger, the commotion, the rebellion, the fervor, the shouting, the devotion; his work is inebriating. It's as if the images are screaming at you and, for a short while, you are transported to the Speakers' Corner without actually setting foot on that location.

Photo Stories: Holiest City, Oldest City by flyaway

Situated along the banks of the Ganges, the vibrant city of Varanasi is one of the most important in Hinduism. It is where pilgrims flock to wash their sins in the waters of the great river and hold sacred rituals. During a trip a few years back, flyaway was able to capture scenes unique to this city on film.

The World According to Herr Willie: The Spirit of Jogja

It is the marvel of Java, the cultural center of Indonesia: Yogyakarta, or, as we assimilated locals call it, Jogja! Jogja is full of historic sites and exudes a very adventurous yet welcoming spirit. It is a true multireligious melting pot that has seen kings and sultans come and go, and religions introduced and either went or stayed. Time has been gentle on Jogja. It's one of my most favorite cities in Asia.

The World According to Herr Willie: Olympiastadion Berlin

The 2015 UEFA Champions League Final will be held at the Olympic Stadium in Berlin on June 6. It is a place full of history and is also the only football stadium with a blue track course. Some say it is the most beautiful stadium in the world, and I totally agree with them. But then agai,n I might be biased because it is the home court of my favorite team, Hertha BSC Berlin—my blue-white bloodline.

Petzval History Series: The Early Life of Joseph Petzval

The Petzval Lens was the first truly practicable portrait lens ever created and thus was the ultimate gift to early photography. We at Lomography feel that this lens and its inventor deserve some attention so here is the first of a series of articles on Joseph Petzval and the first Petzval Lens.
