My Instax in the Sunshine

I haven't had my Fuji Instax Mini 7 camera for very long and as I only got it in winter, up until last weekend I had only used it indoors with the flash. Now that summer is here however - I am taking it out into the sun and loving the results.

My Instax camera takes me back to the late 1980s when my auntie Pat always used a Polaroid Land camera at family events. I loved the excitement while waiting for the photo to appear, and the anticipation squeezed into those few minutes was such a thrill for me. I got my camera at the start of this year when the weather outside was dull and wet and not really worth documenting at all. Now that summer is here, however, I have been out shooting lots and lots.

Last weekend, I took my Instax out for a day trip to take the first outdoor photos I have ever shot on it. I went to the countryside in Shipley for lunch with Dave and it was a lovely sun shiny day indeed. I loved playing with the Instax photos, and all that anticipation I enjoyed as a child was back in full force. I enjoy using it indoors, but the photos seem to come out a lot better outdoors and I was really pleased with the results.

I did have a bit of a problem aiming the camera for some reason. I think it’s because for close up shots, I tend not to use the viewfinder and just aim the lens where I want it. Dave had to explain to me that when we are further away it is no longer necessary to do this and we can just use the viewfinder! Below, you can see one of my botched photos, followed by Dave’s effort to do it right!

The only problem I had with this so it might be worth mentioning is that with the instant film being 800 ISO, a couple of my shots taken in really, really bright sunshine were kind of overexposed. Although with us being in the UK and with our very limited sun, I can’t imagine this being too much of a problem for too long!

It's late October in Copenhagen and summer was well and truly behind us. With the nights drawing in, the chances of going out with one of my cameras was slim. Fresh From the Lab: Take Off Your Socks and Shoes - It's Summertime!

Every year, just a few weeks before summer, I dedicate a series of photos to the joy of living outdoors in this good season. One of the most common pleasures is taking one's socks and shoes off to feel the first warm rays of sun on our pale feet, which were prisoners inside shoes throughout the long winter season. So, it's time to take off your socks and shoes and relax barefoot! Where? Of course, on the walls surrounding the beautiful lake! Take a look!
