Konica Chrome 200 (SRM): Expired Recording

3

After cross-processing, the expired Konica Chrome 200 (SRM) looks like a past, but unfaded memory, which feels different from other common slides in market.

Konica or Konica Minolta, stopped its production of its photographic films since Konica Minolta sold the Imaging Business to Sony. Last stocks of film are all expired in 2010. One of hardest films to find in the market, should be the Chrome series. I don’t have chance to try the ISO 100 one (SRA), but as for the ISO 200 one (SRM), many experienced Lomographers have tried its unique feeling.

As I don’t know the exact expiry date of the SRM I had, I just put the first roll of film into a “sunny camera”, for taking most of the photos under sunlight. After the slide film has expired, the quality of photos after normal E-6 process will decrease obviously, especially for one with an unknown expiry year. E to C cross processing is the possible way to save all these expired slides.

After negative processing, I’ve never seen those rough grain, and the light purple tone on white areas. The surprise of trying out new stuff is always greater than disappointment. It has a great purple tone on sunset hours, but no big change of original color under sunlight. The texture of photos have the similar character of memories: doesn’t look totally the same as the things happened in the past, but the feelings inside are so true.

Finding and trying expired/stop produced film with reasonable prices should be my new target after trying those fresh films.

    Cool review, I liked my Konica Centuria x-pro, it gave me yellowish tones all over and tons of grains. This is my album:

    @bulletofmine
    it's possible that your SRM got over-exposure or expired for too long...

    @blackburg25
    thanks =)
    the colour tone of SRM after XPRO really depands of the rate of exposure and scanning...

Although I often use the Lomo'Instant Camera with different crazy accessories such as the Splitzer and color gels, I have to agree there is something about it — dreamy vignettes maybe? — that always makes me want to go back in time and experience it all over again. In the name of analogue photography and good old memories, we passed by some classic spots in Vienna and took one shot after the other. Take a closer look at our gallery.
