Golden Gate Park, San Francisco

1

Golden Gate Park is a large rectangular park located in San Francisco. The park is modeled after Central Park in New York and Lincoln Park in Chicago. The area offers lakes, gardens, museums, and an indoor greenhouse containing rare flora and fauna. It is an excellent place for locals and visitors alike to spend the day and get away from the hustle and bustle of San Francisco proper.

I spent a day with a friend exploring two spacious gardens in the park, the Japanese Tea Gardens and the San Francisco Botanical Gardens. At the Japanese Tea Gardens one can explore the traditional rock gardens, marvel in the lush greenery, or take in the spectacular Japanese architecture. There is also a tea house to eat at and stands at which one can buy traditional Japanese snacks. At the much more spacious Botanical Gardens, it is fun just to start wandering and see where you end up. However, these are only two of the numerous attractions anyone in the Bay Area should try to visit in the park. I also recommend visiting the Conservatory of Flowers, the DeYoung Museum, and the pen where they keep what used to be wild buffalo – all found within the park.
