A great way to spend a Sunday in London is to wander around the markets in the East End of the city. Start at Columbia Road Flower Market which is set in a small road of Victorian shops off the Hackney Road. It’s a feast of vibrant colours for
your eyes and lens and a joy for your ears as you will get to hear the true dialect of the east end as the ‘barrow boys’ call out and encourage you to buy their plants and flowers.

Once you’ve walked up and down Columbia Road, which won’t take long, wander over to Brick Lane and get yourself some breakfast, the choice is international and the spicy smells will get your tummy rumbling with hunger. Parts of Brick Lane and the adjoining roads are like a giant jumble sale and flea market, there is probably some treasure there but you’d have to have a keen eye and the patience to look through a whole load of rubbish to find it. I reckon you could probably buy just about anything you needed or wanted in Brick Lane and the surrounding area, you’d just had to ask the right person, and be prepared for the fact that it might not be exactly what you thought you’d bought by the time you get home! It’s a great place walking, eating, people watching and taking pictures.

Next you should head for Spitalfields Market, here again there is a huge variety of food from around the world to tempt your taste buds and many different eating establishments so you’ll be able to find one to match your pocket. All around the market there area small booths and stalls selling hand-made jewellery, shoes, clothes, or books, CDs, toys, just about anything and everything imaginable and of course hundreds of Lomo opportunities.

Transient Living: The Craft and the Craftsmen of Denver, Colorado

The people of a city, to me, speak volumes about its culture and sense of community. And that is why I sought out the people who make Denver that much more interesting after the initial period of settling down. My search lead to a few establishments that have contributed to making Denver what it is today. In the second story on Transient Living, I present to you two of such establishments: The Craftsman & Apprentice, and A Small Print Shop.
