The Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Sculpture Garden is one of MoMA's best features.
Whether you’re taking a break from the rest of the museum, looking for a nice place to chat, or just want to hangout outside with some cool art, the MoMA Sculpture Garden is a great place to wander or sit.
Though it’s only open in the warmer months, there are enough events in the garden to last the whole year. The summer is especially packed with events and parties (just don’t fall into the pond!).
Like the inside galleries, the garden also features an incredible rotation of sculptures. Because it’s a separate space and outdoors, it can feel like a much more informal neighbor to the rest of the museum. There is even a little cafe kiosk where you can get an overpriced snack or drink to nibble on as you sit and chat with friends or statues.
The crowd usually consists of a nice mix of – and well dressed ladies in their 80s or 90s, MoMA staff on their lunch break, artists, art enthusiasts, wanderers, and tourists. The overall vibe is very serene and generally more casual than the rest of the museum.
Whatever your reason is for going, the Sculpture Garden is not to be missed!
