REAL NAME: DAVE ORTIZ
CITY: NEW YORK CITY
COUNTRY: USA

*How long have you been a Lomographer (or are you new to this whole thing?).
Dave Ortiz: I’m pretty new to this whole thing i was asked by Ulli if i wanted to shoot for the Lomo family thing, but i use to shoot film when i was in school so it was refreshing to get back to film.

Describe the LC-A+ in five words
DO: Five words is not enough so i will take 10 words…(slice of the past with a hint of the future)

The strangest, funniest, or hands-down greatest photographic/Lomographic encounter that you have ever had?
DO: The day i got my camera was really cool I was so excited to shoot film again.

If your photos shown here could have a soundtrack of three songs, what would they be (song title & artist please).

DO:

  • I LUV JAH (Bad Brains)
  • FREAKY STYLEY (Red Hot Chili Peppers)
  • GOTTA SERVE SOMEBODY (Bob Dylan)

Your company makes custom sneakers, clothing, and you also make custom bikes and skateboards. Tell us how you got into the whole skate/fashion culture?
DO: It pretty much started when I worked at Zoo York Skate Board company there we did all sort of projects with different people. That was my introduction to street wear / skating / anything we wanted, we would some how hook up with the Company that made that thing and sort out a collaboration with that i apply the same ideas and use it for my company Dave’s Quality Meat.

http://www.davesqualitymeat.com/

Your favorite NYC eating establishment (Name and Address please)?
DO: I have to say Supper it’s on 2nd street between ave A and ave B…but some people might say that Epstein is my favorite establishment cuz i’m there everyday. hahaha but Supper has them beat on the taste and good home cooking.

You strike us as a fellow who is constantly in a New York state of mind. How does New York inspire you? How does it affect or inspire your work?
DO: Everything about New York inspires me i can walk down the street and always see something new that I never seen before from day light or night skies it’s one of the most amazing places on earth. My work is nothing but New York the look the feel the everything about it screams NYC it always was like that i guess i’m telling my story of New York threw my work.

The one person (living or deceased) who you would most like to photograph?
DO: I would have to say Salvador Dali he is a very interesting man.

If you’re going out for a full day of Lomo LC-A+ shooting, what’s your preferred mode or transport – a skateboard, a bike, or sneakers? Why?
DO: I like to ride bikes so i have to say my bike because i can cover more ground get to more places with my camera.

Your advice to future LC-A+ shooters?
DO: Don’t be scared because you don’t see the photo right away (Digital age) but if you remember what you shot and how you shot it the end result is so so cool when you get that envelope with those prints.
