Red-Scale When We Please

6

Here is how to turn an ordinary film into a wonderful red-scale.

How many times, just as you were to take a shot at mounting a standard film, have you said, “Hell, this photo would be great if I had mounted a red-scale!”

Well, I’ve been in this situation several times, so I devised this method to make decent pictures with the red tones, just like the ones we like.

Just take an orange colored gel (those used on flash) and place it on the lens of your camera…
I recommend that the gel should be extremely clear. It’s only in this way that you can guarantee excellent results for your shots.

Here are some photos taked with my Diana F+, in combination with the orange flash gel:

And here are some pictures that document and explain this technique:

I thank my friend, Simona, for graciously granting me the use of her photos.

color gels can be a great creative choice, but why call it something it isnt? this is not red-scale at all, and looks quite different. honor it as its own technique.

I called this article in this way, because I considered the result very similar at the red-scale films effect... But you can give at this thechnique all the names that you want :) just try it if you liked...
    Good Lomo-Shot!

The possibilities are infinite, yet some photographers still prefer black and white. Even in 2016, it is an ode to classic values of precision and balance.
