Tribute to My Father

2

A man who at the age of 64 looks like he's in his 50's, rides a motorcycle everyday to work, and rocks the karaoke like no one else, is definitely worthy of a tribute.

René Boscio Babilonia
Age: 64
Occupation: Insurance Agent
Hobby: Riding his motorcycle and singing karaoke

My father is a great man. He’s the kind of father that smiles whenever he sees you, is always there whenever you need him, be it to lift a heavy object, inspire your creativity, or bring the moon down for you. He’s the kind of father that makes sure everybody remembers that you’re his son, and that you deserve special attention because of it. He’s the kind of father that all of your friends want to be around, because he makes them feel cooler than they already are. He’s the kind of father that cares what you think of him.

He’s the kind of father to get on the ground to play with his kids, jump in the pool with a bodyboard, and teach you how to ride a bike. He’s the kind of father that passes everything he knows onto his children, hoping that they become better than him someday. He’s the kind of father that has no problem giving you an old Nikon N6006 analog camera which he treasured, because you recently got into analog photography. He’s the kind of father that lets you take pictures of him so you can practice your photography.

He’s the kind of father that wakes you up singing the greatest 50’s and 60’s rock’n’roll hits. He’s the kind of father that after 25 years of marriage, is still in love with your mother, and cares deeply about maintaining his family together, with love. He’s the kind of father the world would want, but he’s my father, and I wouldn’t trade him for the world.

Together with great portraits of your father, the last sentence really impresses me. Your father is lucky to have you as his son.

Gommorah Girl: An Interview with Valerio Spada

Valerio Spada went beyond his comfort zone and stepped right into the battlefield with his camera. He went to Naples, Italy, an area populated by the Camorra Mafia but also home to Annalisa Durante who, at the age of 14, was killed by a bullet aimed at a Camorra boss. What happened to her could've happened to any of the girls portrayed in the book Gommorah Girl. This work is about Annalisa. It's about all of the girls that, just like her, seem doomed to an unfair destiny - which, hopefully, may still change.

This is a tribute to a founding father of photography, the American photographer Paul Strand. In 1955, he released a book about Luzzara, a small town in central Italy, in collaboration with the famous neo-realist screenwriter Cesare Zavattini. To pay homage to this great artist, this summer I personally went to Luzzara to take a series of photos that shows the changes in this little town 60 years after the work of Strand was published.
