Memories, Stories and How I Met Your Mother

9

Finding myself in the loft at home I stumbled upon a big box of old photos telling stories of my parents lives and I guess it got me thinking. The initial reason for getting into Lomography was to create pretty photos for prettiness sake; just to put on my wall and look at. However, what I ended up with is a room covered in photos each telling a story from a very different perspective.

I have been watching the TV program How I Met Your Mother for years and I’ve always loved the opening credits. If you aren’t lucky enough to already be exposed to this great series the firstly WATCH IT its awesome and secondly, here’s a link to the opening theme.

I really love the colours in these photos; to be honest I have no idea if they are true analog photos but the saturated colours and lomo perspectives at least show they tried to create good imitations. These photos feature at the beginning of every episode reminding us each time how these old pictures prompt great stories.

I think that’s what I really like about this growing collection of analog photos; how each one reminds me of something. Each time a photo reminds me of something it makes me happy; it really can be as simple as remembering how I had to wade through a river holding the camera up to get a shot or how I ran after someone in the park because they had an awesome looking dog.

Although these photos are equally good at reminding us of the big trips or important occasions. There are a handful of photos that really represent my trans-Europe trip last summer (It was then, in Vienna, where I got my first camera :) ). I now think back on that trip and see places through that lovely little fisheye lense and the holiday can be pieced together using my photos.

In this sense my photos are very personal but I don’t think that should stop anyone sharing or exhibiting their photos. I enjoy looking through peoples albums trying to work out the story that led to each shot which almost gives albums their own meaning to each person who looks through. This encourages me to take more photos at every opportunity so I remember each little event, just like an episode of How I Met Your Mother.

Summer Hot Spots: Blaavand, Denmark (Part One)

When I was a child, I regularly went to Blaavand located at the Danish west coast with my brothers and my parents. However, I didn't anymore when I grew up. But in 2012, we hit the road again. It was my first visit there in about 20 years. I took the chance and packed as many cameras as possible into my luggage. In this article, I'm going to present to you the photos I took with my Nikon F-501 SLR.

Pushing Boundaries: So I Heard You Like Multiple Exposures

My name is Amber Valentine and I have a confession to make: I’m not really a photographer. I have a website full of photographs, a bookshelf full of cameras, film waiting to be developed, and a wall full of framed pictures I’ve taken. Even so, I don’t really consider myself a photographer per se. I think that Lomography is more about the experimentation and the fun of film than it is about the photography, and that experimentation is part of the reason I have embraced Lomography so.

The Magic Yet To Come: Part 1

Here’s a random and rather mysterious tale for you folks. Just the other day, I was at a local bar with a few friends. It was much like any other evening; we were sipping a couple of cocktails, recounting our adventures, falling over ourselves with laughter and half-drunkenly meditating on the meaning of life (a scientist once told me it’s 42 by the way). But then something truly strange happened. Read on to hear my story and please make a comment with your guess at the end!

The New Petzval Lens 85 continues to captivate the hearts of many photographers from its debut a couple of years back. A perfect balance between form and function, this lens closely mimics the look of the legendary Petzval lens of the 19th century and delivers eye-catching images with its signature tack sharp center and swirly bokeh background. Many photographers from both outside and inside the Lomography community have raved about the New Petzval 85. In this recap, we look back at four community-written reviews.
