Change Your Diana's Colour Gels in a Flash

6

If you like shooting with the Diana's flash different colour gels, this trick could save you valuable seconds.

I don’t normally use the colour gels that come with my Diana Mini's flash. I lose a lot of time deciding which to use then fixing it in place (let’s not forget rule #7: Be fast). I’m also pretty clumsy when it comes to putting them in place.

When I’ve decided to use one, I usually stick with that colour for the rest of the photos because it takes too long to change it.

This is why I came up with this trick. This is what you’ll need:

  • The colour gels
  • Super glue (the strongest you can find).

I separated the gels in to two groups to make them easier to use. You can arrange them however you like. Stick them together until you have one or various strips.

When you want to change colour, now all you have to do is gently pull the strip along to the gel you want .

Of course, you can adapt this method however you like. So far it hasn’t given me any problems or come unstuck. The only thing I need now is an easy way to transport the strips.

Notes:

  • Sorry for the quality of the photos. The only digital camera I’ve got is the one on my mobile.
  • Ignore the drawing on the sheet of paper.

The Diana Mini is the ultra-compact, petite version of the Diana F+. This camera takes soft-focused, lo-fi images in 35mm and allows you to change between half-format and square shots with a flick of a switch. Get your own Diana Mini now!

    smart idea!
if the gels aren't too stiff you could coil them up into a canister maybe?
