Why "cross the bridge" when you are able to escape from the city?!
The Bosphorus is a strait between the Black Sea and the Mamara Sea and separates the European part from the Asian continent in Istanbul. It is about 31km long and its depth varies from 36m to 124m.
To cross the Bosphorus and to reach the other side, you have two possibilities: crossing one of the two bridges or taking the ferry.
i always prefer to take the “vapur” and escape from the city for about 20min. Why get stuck in the traffic when you can sit on a boat, let your eyes float over the sea and have tea while you are going to the other side?! Even when you have to go by car, you have the possibility to go by ferry with it and avoid the traffic and just enjoy the calmness.
At night, when transportation is closed you have to use the highways and abandon the possibility to see Istanbul from the seaside.
Next to a hand full of landing stages there are three main points of travel which are located right in the center: Eminönü and Karaköy on the European part and Kadiköy on the Asian side. You can use the boats as normal city transportation. Either you have your akbill or citycard to use as a ticket or you’ll take a jeton for about one euro before using the ferry.
Another reason why I always take the ferry is to use the time in the morning to wake up clearly and have coffee to forget the stress in the afternoon while going back, even when I moved to the European side I sometimes go to Asia just to have tea and forget about the stress from the day!
In my opinion – there is no need to cross the bridge when you are able to take the ferry and escape from the city!
