Masked Supersampler

Use a paper mask to create a different photo or minimovie, the following modification is temporary and you can take it off anytime you like. The process is simple but it takes a little bit of patience and a steady hand to do it.

Open the back plate of your (unloaded) Supersampler and look into the (4) four framed box, if you look carefully you will notice there is a slot where you can apply a piece of paper as a mask without interfering with the film (the slot bottom is a bit lower then the rest of the film guide).

Step 1 – The dimension of the four framed box is 37mm x 24mm, cut a piece of paper with that dimensions.

Step 2 – Draw the limit of each frame (9.25mm between frames), these lines will be useful for you to identify the boundaries of each frame when drawing.

Step 3 – Draw whatever you want on each frame.

Step 4 – Before cutting the drawing out of the mask, apply some tape to make it more resistant.

Step 5 – Cut the drawing out of the mak, use a thin blade to do the cuts and a hard paper base beneath the drawing so the cuts can be more accurate.

Step 6 – Cut thin stripes of tape and apply them to the mask which allows you to fix the mask into the slot, just make sure that the mask and the tape don’t interfere with any of the Supersampler components and film.

I used a CAD drawing software to make and print several masks in a A4 sheet, then I used a surgical blade to cut the drawing out of the mask; next time I will try to find a cutting plotter to make the masks on a sticker.
